A Letter in Solidarity with the Black Community

Dear Families,

Our hearts are heavy over the murder of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tony Mcdade, and the countless innocent Black people who suffer at the hands of police brutality and systemic racism. To the Black children and families in our community, our neighborhood, our city and beyond: we are here for you.

To our Non Black community members (Asian Pacific Islander, Latinx, White, LBGTQ, Multiracial, Immigrant and Refugee families etc.), let us all show our solidarity by denouncing racism and upholding and supporting our Black families, Black-led organizations and movements.

BLACK LIVES MATTER!

Harm done to any one in our community is harm done to us all.It is our collective responsibility to speak out against injustices and dismantle the systems of oppression.
We continue to call on the federal, state and local officials and government agencies to develop concrete policies and actions to combat systemic racism and invest in our communities.

From the very beginning, Lotus Bloom challenged itself to be a safe place in the community where families could celebrate their cultural, linguistic, and unique diversity, yet appreciate and respect their collective differences and commonalities. As a multicultural organization, we will continue to unpack and unlearn the ways we have participated in systemic racism and take action for a more just future.

With Deep Love and Honor,
ALL of us at Lotus Bloom

LOTUS BLOOM LAUNCHES FUND FOR FAMILIES

Lotus Bloom’s goal is to address the needs elevated by families in Oakland communities due to the COVID-19 crisis. The RAPID RESPONSE FUND is designed to aid families in their effort to make payments such as rent, food purchases, health bills and more.

Thanks to the generous partnership of First 5 Alameda County, Sunlight Giving, and the Trio Foundation, Lotus Bloom will be making a total of $30,000.00 in funds available to families experiencing hardship due to job loss or immigration status, and other impacts of the shelter in place order and COVID-19.

Our goal is to provide $100 to 300 families initially, with the vision of expanding the fund to sustain engagement and support.
